Workshop; Collective drawing / Isabelle's Cabinet of Curiosity
Find inspiration from Isa Michaud's Cabinet of Curiosity to create a drawing of perhaps a butterfly, or a small figurine, maybe of a plant, a shell, or a small unusual object in pastel, pencil, or marker. The possibilities are right at your finger tips! |
Isabelle Michaud is a Sault-Sainte-Marie/Baawating visual artist working to develop lasting and
meaningful ties between artist, environment and identity in an approach that is both intimate and community driven. Michaud received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Algoma University (2018.) She has exhibited and curated exhibitions across Ontario, with recent solo shows at 180 Projects and Blind River at the Timber Village Museum. Isabelle has received several artist grants from the Ontario Arts Council for personal and collaborative projects. Isabelle Michaud's residency at the Sault Museum (2021) involved the engagement of members of the local Francophone community to map Francophone presence and cultural erasure. Sites of exploration included an abandoned French-language newspaper (Les Rives), the Dionne Quintuplets, the former "Quartier français/French Town" neighborhood, and the language crisis of 1990. Isabelle used mixed media, including books works, paintings, installations, videos as well as assemblages and drawings based on materials from the collections, local geography and regional Francophone history. Her work complements the museum's French cultural collections, contextualized by stories and experiences of exclusion/belonging. This residency culminated in an exhibition titled "Une Balade à French Town / Walking French Town". Since November 2021, Isabelle Michaud has been working on the launch and promotion of her micro-gallery, the Galerie Sans Clous. Seven francophone, Indigenous and artists of multicultural backgrounds will be exhibited virtually from April 2022- to March 2023. Visit www.lagaleriesansclous.com for more information. |
